Mobile World Congress 2017: What to expect?
Once again, mobile industry is ready for its annual meeting point: Mobile World Congress 2017 which will be held in Barcelona for almost a week (February 27 – March 2). More than 1.500 companies from all over the world and every sector of the industry will be gathered for 4 days showing us what the future of mobile holds for consumers, enterprises and the societies in general.
Mobile World Congress is the most significant event of our industry. It’s not only a very big exhibition where we see innovative products and solutions but also a conference where top executives of the industry share their visions and opinions. Its holistic approach is what makes MWC such an outstanding event.
Just a few days before opening let’s take a look of what we expect to be the most important elements of MWC 2017. Apart from smartphones that every year are an important part of the event, as every major manufacturer launches at least one top device.
We believe that 5G and the services or challenges that it brings with will be the main subject of the event. We are another year closer to the expected rollout of the next-generation wireless network, so expect lots of talk about 5G's potential at Barcelona. As we move from theory to practice, 5G creates great opportunities for the industry. IoT, connected or even partly autonomous cars, mobile health are coming at the spotlight and we expect that everyone, from carrier to hardware makers, will talk up the benefits of 5G and how they're positioned to make the most of it with their services and solutions they prepare. Together with, major challenges, especially in security, are coming and the industry will also focus on them. VR and augmented reality created a lot of buzz last year. This buzz is set to continue this year, so we believe that during MWC we‘ll see many new proposals as companies continue to explore the full potential of these promising technologies.
Mobile Payments & Fintech
Mobile payments and Fintech will be also another major part of the event. Emerging economies will continue to drive the fintech market, expectation for growth is strong, 2017 looks set to be a year in which we see a great deal of development within the FinTech space and all these trends will be reflected during the event. Be prepared for many new or updated solutions, the vast majority of them may target specifically to the needs of regions, such as Africa or Asia, which are the steam engine of this sector. Additionally, we strongly believe that we will see solutions that implement new technologies such as AI or biometric technology, which offers convenience and a new form of security and identity verification. Last but not least, as the fintech ecosystem continues to evolve, we must expect new forms of fintech solutions in the fields of insurance (InsurTech), regulatory technology (RegTech) or even mortgage solutions.
